To our wonderful ?Cape Town Stand-Still Flash-Mobbers!?
From all of us at The Power of One, we would like to say a huge thank you to all of you who attended and helped to carry out the Cape Town Stand-Still yesterday, Wednesday 9th April, in St. Georges? Mall. The activation was a great success and we managed to draw a lot of attention to the cause.
The purpose of the activation was to highlight the Power of One campaign; an initiative launched by the Heart of Healing to help educate people at a grass-roots level, about their individual role in reducing their personal energy consumption, to try to prevent further load-shedding. We as individuals must be aware of our energy usage and switch off any unnecessary lights, appliances and if possible, our geysers too, to reduce the amount of energy we are using and on a plus point, help save money too.
Over 100 people descended on St. George?s Mall to join us and carry out the activation and we would like to thank each and every one of you for participating and making the event such a successful endeavour.
In the Cape Times today, Thursday 10th, they mentioned that we have only been able to reduce our electricity consumption by a measly 4% when a decrease of 10% is what we were aiming for. As a result, if we do not wake up and plug in to the campaign and start to pay attention to the energy we are wasting, it could end up being a long, dark and cold winter for us all!
We hope you enjoyed yourselves and if you would like to be involved in any further activations of a similar nature, please sign up to the Facebook group; Cape Town Guerilla or see www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=11737390739
If you would like to see the videos and press clippings from the event yesterday please see the Thursday 10th copies of The Cape Times (see p.5), Cape Argus (p.3), Die Burger (see website) and keep your eyes peeled for the news on SABC. You can also read the articles on the Cape Times and Cape Argus websites and keep your eyes on the Power of One website, www.powerofone.org.za to see the videos and other press clippings. We also made a big noise on the local and national radio stations being featured on 5FM, 567 Cape Talk, Radio 702, Umhlobo Wenene.
Kind Regards
Jules Curtis
